14 officials charged in Front Royal development authority scheme

FRONT ROYAL, Va. — 14 current and former officials in Warren County have been charged over the alleged mismanagement of funds.

Virginia State Police announced the charges Wednesday.

Mark A. Baker, 53, of Front Royal.
William M. Biggs, 77, of Front Royal.
Alexander G. Blanton, 72, of Front Royal.
Tony F. Carter, 59, of Linden.
Luke G. Drescher, 59, of Middletown.
Bruce N. Drummond, 68, of Linden.
Archie A. Fox, 78, of Strasburg.
Linda P. Glavis, 75, of Front Royal.
Ronald L. Llewellyn, 66, of Front Royal.
Daniel J. Murray Jr., 72, of Middletown.
Thomas E. Patteson III, 73, of Front Royal.
Thomas H. Sayre, 54, of Front Royal.
Douglas P. Stanley, 50, of Front Royal.
Daniel N. Whitten, 36, of Front Royal.

Fox 5 DC reports it all stems from an investigation into the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority and its former executive director, Jennifer McDonald.

In May, McDonald was indicted on 28 felony embezzlement charges. The court found her guilty of making a deal with a developer who promised projects funded with money that never materialized.

Among those projects was a proposed police academy to be overseen by now-former Warren County Sheriff Daniel T. McEathron.

McEathron was found dead on May 28 outside of Front Royal. The Virginia Medical Examiners Office in Manassas determined he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to The Washington Post.

McEathron was not charged in the scheme.

This is a developing story.
