As gas prices rise and the nation continues to deal with the mortgage crisis the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce is trying to help local businesses deal with the economic downturns these situations create.President and CEO of the Chamber Tina Combs was a guest on Tuesday’s Panhandle Live where she discussed another factor that impacts Berkeley County businesses specifically, West Virginia’s reputation.Combs talked about things like worker’s compensation and business taxes as just some of the issues the chamber is trying to address.Since advertising is usually one of the first costs businesses cut when tightening a budget the chamber will hold an expo designed to encourage members of the community to patronize local businesses and to let them know what goods and services are available nearby. The chamber is currently taking applications from businesses interested in participating.Applications can be downloaded from the Chamber’s website www.berkeleycounty.org/ and discounts will be given to businesses that sign up before August 1st.
