Providing affordable housing for Jefferson County senior citizens received a boost today when Jefferson County Commissioners voted 3-2 to hold a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Impact Fee Ordinance for age restricted communities. Owner and developer of Cambridge, David Leeas, a proposed senior manufactured home development, presented the recommended change to Commissioners which, if adopted, would eliminate the $11,000 impact on Cambridge new homes. Commissioner Rusty Morgan suggested that the Commission needed to be flexible when dealing with seniors and affordable housing. Enforcement of the age restriction of 18, with no school age children residing in the development, concerned several Commissioners during a wide ranging discussion including legal counsel from both sides.
