A free dental clinic will be held next month at Hedgesville High School in an effort to address the oral health problem in the Eastern Panhandle.Dr. Lisa Dunn, the Director of Dental Health Programs for the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, says the problem stems from having too few dentists to keep up with the rapidly growing population in the area.A local group called “Healthy Smiles” has been working for almost three years on the issue, and the clinic at Hedgesville will be the first of its kind in West Virginia.Dunn says the goal will be to see 1,000 patients over the two-day period regardless of their ability to pay.The only requirement to receive care is to be over the age of 18, but patients will be seen on a first come first serve basis and only 500 people will be seen on each day of the clinic.Patients will receive one service each, meaning extraction, filling or cleaning of teeth. The clinic will run on June 27th and 28th from 6am until 8pm.
