Gateway Golf Classic a Huge Success

20 years ago that the inaugural Gateway Foundation Golf Classic brought in almost $18,000 for City Hospital and the tradition continued this year as the 21st Annual Gateway Golf Classic collected $64,000.The classic was held on June 2nd at the Woods Resort, and per tradition, the winning team decided how the money would be spent. This year the winning team of Rob Uccelini, Steve Catlett, Jeff Nichols and Ted Caveglia finished first over all and decided the money would go towards purchasing equipment for the radiology department at City Hospital.Vice President of Marketing and Development for West Virginia University Hospitals East Teresa McCabe said the tournament has raised more that $900,000 over the past two decades, and the overwhelming support from the community has been the key to making it the most successful fundraising event of the year.

Past equipment purchased with money raised by the classic include a surgical laser system and laparoscopic video system for the surgery department, two neonatal intensive care units and a fetal monitor for the obstetrics unit and many more.
