Berkeley County Commissioners voted unanimously on a proposal to reorganize the commission offices in an effort to help them run more smoothly. In the proposal, Commissioner Ron Collins drew attention to the enormous work load currently put on County Administrator Deborah Hammond.Collins said that this can be alleviated and money can be saved if Human Resource Director for Berkeley County Alan Davis takes on the additional role of Deputy County Administrator, which Davis said he is willing to do.The move also calls for the creation of a new full time secretarial position in the commission offices and a part time position dedicated solely to grant writing.Collins estimated that the part time grant writer would have made enough money to create a full time position within 18-months.He says this reorganization is another step in saving tax payers money by creating in house positions rather than hiring outside vendors.
