A six-year-old Ranson boy passed away Saturday night after a swimming accident in the Shenandoah River. Lieutenant Harry Shaver with the law enforcement section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources said the boy was wading near the boat ramp at the Shannondale Springs access site when he encountered deep water and went under. Bystanders immediately attempted to locate him, and after approximately five to ten minutes the boy was pulled from the water and CPR was administered as he was put on a kayak to be taken to shore.Once on shore DNR Officer Ken White administered CPR before the boy was transported to Jefferson Memorial Hospital. The boy was later airlifted to Children’s national Medical Center in Washington D.C. where he passed away at approximately 11:30pm.Lt. Shaver said the Medical Examiner in Washington reported that the death appeared to be accidental drowning, and that there was no evidence of any other trauma as of Monday afternoon.
