WVU QB To Focus on Academics

Quarterback Charlie Russell is giving up football at West Virginia University to concentrate on his studies. The redshirt freshman made the decision about two weeks ago. He did not see any action last season.

Russell is a graduate of Morgantown High School, where he led the Mohigans to two state Class AAA championships. He is majoring in biochemistry and eventually hopes to be admitted to medical school.

The departure of Russell, who participated in spring practice, leaves WVU with Patrick White, Jarrett Brown and Bradley Starks as the only non-freshman quarterbacks on the roster. And Starks is expected to be a starting wide receiver this fall.
