The Martinsburg Fire Department recently received a 2008 Pierce Fire Truck with a 95-foot platform to replace their old 1988 Grumman Aerial Cat Fire truck. Fire Chief Paul Bragg says the new addition to their department not only makes it safer when it comes to responding to fires in the area, it’s also safer for the firefighters that will be operating it. He says new technology and safety features make operators of the vehicle safer and residents are safer because the new truck cuts set up time in half.
It would take 2 people at least 3 minutes to set up the old truck, but now with the new truck, 1 person can set it up to respond to a call in about 1 and ½ minutes.
Thursday is the last day of the three-day training session for the new truck, and Bragg says he wants to have it in service by next week. The new truck cost the department almost $964,000.
