A Cyber and Homeland Security Workshop for area teachers originally scheduled for this weekend has been postponed. Blue Ridge Community and Technical College was scheduled to host the event at the Purple Iris at Hartwood Thursday and at the Blue Ridge CTC Campus on Friday.Program Coordinator for Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies at Blue Ridge Kerri Namolik says the planning process started later than desired and that the timing did not work out well for focusing on educators in middle- and high-schools in the panhandle.Namolik said the event will be rescheduled either in August or for sometime next spring because it is an important part of future plans at the college. It is part of a grant that has helped to develop a program in home land security the college hopes will turn into a cyber security program. She says both fields are up and coming and want to get the word out to local teachers to take back into their class rooms.Namolik does not believe that the delay will affect the status of the grant because the development of the programs is continuing and contacts in the field are still being made per the grant’s requirements.
