Emergency Shelter Grant Awarded to Three Area Programs

Three area programs will soon be benefiting from an Emergency Shelter Grant that was awarded to them in Charleston Wednesday.  Glenda Helman, Executive Director of Community Networks, says they have received $43,510 from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, an amount that will go towards the Bethany House, which is an emergency shelter for women and children, the Hope Living/Learning Center, which provides transitional housing for women, and HIV-AIDS programs. Helman says the money will help pay for operation costs such as utilities, and is also part of essential services money that helps pay for case managers who work one-on-one with people inside the shelters.Helman says $23,500 will go towards the Bethany House, $12,500 for the Hope Living/Learning Center and $7,510 is set aside for the Drop-In Center’s HIV-AIDS programs.
