Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito visited the Eastern Panhandle Monday to see the continued progress of the Eastern Panhandle with the addition of the Coast Guard’s new National Maritime Center and a new Telecommunications Center at Burr Industrial Park. Capito said both facilities indicate that West Virginia is heading in the right direction with development and creating jobs, and that positioning the maritime center in the Eastern Panhandle shows that there is a solid workforce in the region. The facility is not yet operating at full capacity, but will ultimately employ more than 200 people from around the area.Capito said Burr Industrial Park’s telecommunication center is an essential addition due to rising fuel costs, and is needs to be re-focused on to give people more options about where they work and how much they must travel. Before beginning her tour of the panhandle Capito spent time meeting with local officials.
