The Berkeley County Board of Education is sponsoring a Summer Food Service Program for area children this month. The 15-year-old program provides breakfast and lunch to children who are 18 years old and younger.
Assistant Food Services Director at the Board of Education Carolyn Barnett says they offer food service for special education and title one, who have classes until around 1:00 pm every day. The students are fed breakfast when they first arrive and lunch before they leave. Barnett stresses that the sites are open to anyone under the age of 18 who chose to come there and eat.According to Barnett, locations for the program are selected based on the need rate, and the schools selected have more students enrolled in the free or reduced meal program. This year the program is being offered at Berkeley Heights Elementary, Pikeside Learning Center and Winchester Avenue Elementary, and is being offered through July 31st.For more information you may call the food service office at (304) 267-3500.
