The Shops at Inwood Farmer’s Market was officially opened Tuesday at a ceremony attended by West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Gus Douglass. Douglass unveiled new improvements as part of the weeklong celebration that includes giveaways, sampling and family activities that culminates Saturday July 26 with Family Fun Day at the Martinsburg mall.Douglass said that West Virginia is still a rural state, although it may not seem like it in some areas, and that since West Virginia is ranked number one by the farmer’s census nationally as having the most family owned and operated farms, farming is still a big part of the economy.Douglass says a new program to help create more opportunity for consumers to get West Virginia produced products is underway in the state. The Shops at Inwood Farmer’s market includes physical changes and upgrades, along with more visibility in the form of signs on Interstate 81. There is also room for demonstrations, rentals and eventually expansion.Douglass said he hopes the new market will help to better serve the area and become a boost to the economy of the Eastern Panhandle.
