Jefferson County Commission to meet on zoning

The Jefferson County Commission has scheduled four workshops to review the recommendations the Planning Commission made to the draft zoning ordinance and subdivision regulation earlier this week.  Tony Redman, director of the county’s planning and zoning departments, came before the commission to explain the findings of the planning commission and to explain what steps would need to be taken in order to finalize the draft.During Thursday’s county commission meeting Redman explained the resolution, gave a consistency report and a final summary of the decisions which include three map changes and nine text changes.  The planning commission recommends the county commission incorporate the recommended amendments into the May 15th draft then resubmit it to the planning commission so they can certify that their suggested changes were made.  That draft would then be used for public hearings. The commission will meet on Tuesday, August 19th at 10:00am and 1:30pm, and if no decision has been made they will meet again on Thursday, August 21st after their regular weekly meeting.Commissioners scheduled back to back meetings to address the zoning ordinance and the sub division regulations individually, but may combine the issues for public hearings later.  Robert Reynolds, the President of the Jefferson County Planning Commission, was also present.  He spoke to Commissioners about the hard work that has been put into what he feels is a successful draft ordinance, and credited his staff, members of the planning commission and the public for wide-based community support.
