Berkeley County to Hold Ballot Position Drawing

A ballot position drawing will be held this Tuesday at 9:00 am at the Berkeley County Clerk’s Annex on 110 West King Street in Martinsburg to decide how the names for those running for the positions of Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals and local magistrates will appear on the November ballot. Bonnie Woodfall, Chief Deputy of Elections for Berkeley County, says there is only one issue that will appear on this year’s general election ballot, and it has nothing to do with zoning.  Voters will decide whether Berkeley County will be increasing its number of County Commissioners.
Woodfall says if voters approve the move to increase the County Commission from three members to five, they would no longer be called County Commissioners, rather County Councilman. If passed, two new additions to the Commission would be voted into office in 2010.
After the drawings, the order of names on the ballot will go on record, and Woodfall says they’ll have this year’s ballots in their office by September 23rd at the latest.
