“Good Morning America” Comes to the Eastern Panhandle

Harpers Ferry was the center of attention Thursday when Good Morning America made a stop there to broadcast their show live as part of the “50 States in 50 Days” Whistle Stop Tour.  Publicist for the show Bridgette Maney said that Harpers Ferry was chosen as a stop on the tour not only because it was along the route they had planned for the train, but also because it is such an iconic town with so much history and beauty.

Hundreds gathered to welcome hosts Chris Cuomo, Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts as they started their broadcast at John Browns Fort.  There was a tight schedule to keep as the cast was led through the streets of Harpers Ferry by the crew.  Spectators were entertained by the historical sights of Harpers Ferry, as well as by the exhibits, shops and live Bluegrass Music being presented for the event.  The Good Morning America Cast even found time to dance to the music while they waited for their next shoot.

Harpers Ferry National Historic Park hosted the sight.  Visitors were able to park at the visitor’s center and take a bus down to the main town where the show was being filmed.  The cast and crew are traveling by train across the country, and according to Maney this is the first time a television show ahs been broadcast live from a moving train and said the logistics have been a challenge, but well worth the effort.
