Air Show a Success

Residents from all across the tri-state area gathered at the Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport in Martinsburg yesterday for the second day of the “Spirit of America” air show.
Owners of aircraft from all across the east coast flew in to display and demonstrate their planes and helicopters.  Among them was Lieutenant James C. Coley of the Air National Guard, the pilot of “The Vanguard” which he flew in for the show. Those in attendance were allowed to explore the interior of the helicopter and meet the pilot.
According to Lieutenant Coley, “The Vanguard” serves multiple purposes, including Airborne Mine Countermeasures, which means making clear passage for ships by clearing water ways, and long range heavy lifting.  Despite the show being held off in past years due to the airport’s runway construction, fans of the event can look forward to another air show in 2009.
