House Majority Leader Endorses Barth

Democratic nominee for the Second Congressional District Anne Barth and Representative for Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District and Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives Steny Hoyer were in Martinsburg Monday for a round table discussion.  Between 40 and 50 people were on hand for the event, including elected officials and stakeholders to discuss the changes that they feel need to be made to the economy and infrastructure of the state and of the nation.

Hoyer said Barth’s 20 years of experience as Senator Byrd’s aide give her unique insight into the problems faced by individual West Virginians.  He called for changes to be made in Washington and said that working with Barth is important not only for West Virginia, but also for his constituents in Maryland.

Hoyer said he was in the Eastern Panhandle to endorse Barth’s candidacy, but took the opportunity to criticize the fiscal policies of the current administration which he said have led to the country’s current financial crisis.  He said Barth’s opponent, Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito, has supported those same policies during her time in office.

Barth focused on roads and jobs for West Virginia, and said fiscal policy changes were needed.
