America voted yesterday in one of the most historic elections in modern history.  Senator Barack Obama won the election and will be the 44th President of the United States.  Obama will also be the first African-American to serve in the office.Obama defeated Republican Senator John McCain after several key swing states began to fall his way, but West Virginia remained a Republican State and voted for McCain.  West Virginia also voted to give Governor Joe Manchin another term in office, along with Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller and the lone Republican in the House, Congresswoman for the 2nd Congressional District Shelly Moore Capito.Menis ketchum and Margaret Workman were appointed to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.Magistrates in Berkeley County include Harry Lee Snow, Joann Overington, Sandy Miller, Randy Smith and Ywatta Mitchell.Locally Democrat Tony Petrucci was elected to be the new President of the Berkeley County Commission, and the three person commission will be expanded to a five person council starting in 2010.  Democrat Kenny LeMaster will serve as Sheriff in Berkeley County, while Bobby Shirley will assume the role in Jefferson County.In other Jefferson County news all five members of the County Commission will Democrats after Patsy Noland won the Kabletown District and Lynn Wydmeyer took the Harpers Ferry District.Democrat Herb Snyder won the race for the 16th Senate District while Clark Barnes will serve on the 15th.  Craig Blair won the 52nd Delegate District.
