Panhandle Live Helps Start the Season

At 6:00pm November 21, 2008 the holiday season officially starts in down town Martinsburg with the Snowflake Festival.  Members of the community got a sneak peak at the upcoming events with a special edition of Panhandle Live from the square at the intersection of King and Queen Streets.  Host David Welch spoke top members of the community, local business people and of course, the Executive Director of Main Street Martinsburg, Randy Lewis.

The evening’s festivities begin with the arrival of Santa Claus and lighting of the tree in front of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library.  A Yule Log will help fight the cold as choirs sing songs seasonal favorites.  Participants will also enjoy open houses of downtown businesses throughout the evening.

The festival is normally held on the first Friday in December, but this year that will be December 5th.  Lewis says that getting an early start will be good for business in what many feel will be a difficult economic year.  December 5th is also only 20 days form Christmas, and Lewis says that does not give anyone enough time to prepare, decorate or shop for the holidays.
