Delagte Continues Town Hall Meetings

Nearly 20 people gathered at the Marlowe Ruritan building Saturday to attend the first of three public meetings being held by Delegate John Overington prior to the upcoming legislative session.  Issues ranged from healthcare to cell phone use behind the wheel with almost everyone in attendance participating.

Overington has held the meetings regularly for the past 25 years.  He says that government works best as a “two-way street,” and that the first meeting on Saturday was a prime example of that.  Berkeley County Commissioner Bill Stubblefield was in attendance.  He offered several facts and related how some of the issues related to the county.

One issue Overington said he will take to Charleston thanks to the meeting is tuition reimbursement.  Several citizens said it is something they would like to see put back into place in West Virginia.  Past legislation regarding work programs for inmates was given as an example of legislation that has stemmed directly from Overington’s town meetings.
