Martinsburg VA Hosts Job Fair

Veterans from around the region showed up at the Martinsburg VA on Thursday for the Veterans Career Fair and Business Opportunity Summit. The event was sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Martinsburg VA Medical Center and Work force WV. The goal of the Career Fair was to provide aid to Veterans seeking employment and identify business opportunities. Both government agencies and surrounding area business were there looking for applicants to fulfill their human resource needs. There were also workshops and seminars that helped teach Veterans how to relate their skills to employers’ and to also obtain information on how to start up their own business.

 

The event started at 9:30 to and lasted till 3:00, the National Coordinator Don Nichols said that by 8:00 they already had veterans waiting at the door to register. Nichols said that they believe that over a hundred people would register throughout the day. There were area business and government agency vendors set up at tables for veterans to look around and see which job better suited them. Dr. Jason Malcy, Coordinator for homeless veterans at the VA said that they had around 46 vendors. Master Sergeant Dan Jenkins with the West Virginia Air National Guard said “that the fair was a good way for veterans to find out about the Air National Guard as well as other jobs in the area. Before noon they already had 165 veterans registered for the career fair.
