Rockefeller Proposes Healthcare Changes
Story by Alison Smith WEPM Washington D.C. News CorrespondentThe debate in Congress over health care is heating up in Washington. And West Virginia’s Senator Rockefeller continues to play a leading role in the issue. He, along with the Democratic leadership, is pushing for a public health care option to reform the system. And late last month he introduced the Consumers Health Care Act in an effort to do so.
However, Democratic Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus has broken with party lines, and on Wednesday continued working with Senate Republicans on a bipartisan bill that could include taxing benefits or
an alternative to a public plan. Rockefeller and other leading
Democrats have said that they will not support a bill that includes these measures.
A comprehensive health care reform bill could be passed by the Senate as early as the congressional recess in August.
