County Clerk Recommends Against Satellite Vote

Legislation passed earlier this year gives West Virginia Counties the option of adding locations for early voting in outside of the County Clerk’s office.  Berkeley County Clerk John Small came before Berkeley County Commissioners during their regular weekly meeting and said he was against the idea because of the extra expense it would bring.County Commissioner Bill Stubblefield said he is not sure that Berkeley County needs satellite voting sites as the county is not geographically large and is well laid out.Stubblefield credited the county clerk’s office and staff with making early voting such a smooth process in the county and encouraged citizens to take advantage of their right to vote. The county clerk would need to request any satellite location in addition to his King Street office 120 days before an election and his request would then need to be approved by the county commission.
