Community Alternatives to Violence Holds Fundraiser

The Rita’s on Edwin Miller Boulevard may be celebrating its first summer in the community but they are already working hard to give back.  Wednesday night they hosted a fund raiser for Community Alternatives to Violence (CATV), a non-profit group that works to provide healthy alternatives to violent behavior through education about family violence.  The event was held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, and during that time a percentage of the proceeds would go towards the group.

Balloons lined the railing at the Italian Ice and custard stand and the Rita’s Mascot did handsprings by the street as people began to line up.  Carolyn Zdziera is the executive director of CATV.  She said that while her group would not be handling any of the products, they would be talking with children and adults about their program in an effort to continue spreading their message of ending family violence one home at a time.

Store Manager at the Martinsburg Rita’s Connie Bud said the franchise likes to help the community through fundraisers.  During an interview with WEPM News, Bud revealed that the group would not be getting 10% of the proceeds as they had originally thought, but they would receive 15% instead.  She said Rita’s is behind CATV 100% and hopes the fundraiser will go a long way towards helping the organization.
