Humane Society Robbed
A break-in Saturday at the Berkeley County Humane Society has left animals there in need of some basic necessities.
According to an e-mail from President Shari Persad two storage buildings in the back of the shelter were robbed of pet supplies including dog and cat food, paper towels, and kitten formula, among other items. Persad said the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene to investigate.
The door to the shelter’s large storage building where pet supplies are stored was badly damaged and the door on the small storage facility where cleaning supplies are kept was completely removed.
Persad said investigators were startled by the amount of supplies that were taken. The buildings will be alarmed and Persad hopes cameras will be installed.
She believes the perpetrators must have used a big truck because so much was taken. Anyone with information may call the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department at (304) 267-7000.
This is one of the buildings broken into. It once served as the actual animal shelter.
