A special Panhandle Live celebrated the kick off to the Second Annual Carole Ergin Unity Walk Against Child Abuse, Neglect and Family Violence. The event takes place Saturday, September 12^th at Poor House Farm Park. The walk is being done by Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) and Community Alternatives to Violence (CAV).

The kickoff happened in downtown Martinsburg at the corner of King and Queen Streets. Members of the community had the chance to come out and sign up to walk or sponsor the event as a business or individual. Several people spoke about abuse and neglect during the broadcast including Carolyn Zdziera, Executive Director for CAV and Vicky Wilcher, the Executive Director of CASA. Both emphasized the importance of community education and explained that the walk, done in honor of the late Carole Ergin, a survivor of domestic violence, will help create the kind of awareness the issue needs.
