Blue Ridge CTC Agrees to Purchase Land

The Board of Governors at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College met Wednesday afternoon to discuss the future of the school.  Following an executive session board member Tina Combs made a motion to enter into a purchase agreement for 43 acres of property in Berkeley County off of Route 45 near the Commons shopping center.  The motion was unanimously approved. The land will be the ultimate site of the college’s new campus.  The Board of Directors will enter into the agreement with Interstate Development Group, LLC. Director of Enrollment Management Leslie See said the process has been a long process and involved looking at various properties but that this land is the right place at the right time.  See said the college’s lease at the Dunn building will not expire until 2014, and they hope to have the new facility ready by then, although right now they are only at the very early stages of development.  The new facility will not impact the technology center at the Berkeley Industrial Park.

The board also got word that enrollment at the school has risen beyond expectations.  The initial goal for a total headcount in Fall 2009 was 2,700 students.  Unofficial numbers put that number at more than 3,200.  This makes Blue Ridge CTC the fastest growing community college in the state of West Virginia.  The growth on the unofficial headcount grew by more than 32% from 2008 to 2009.  The school has seen a 91% growth since the fall of 2005.
