Project Lifesaver to Begin Training in Berkeley County

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department will begin training for Project Lifesaver next week.  West Virginia State Coordinator for the Project Sue Patalano announced the training dates via e-mail.  Project Lifesaver combines radio transmitter tracking technology with specially trained rescue teams to return adults and children with cognitive disabilities who have wandered.  Patalano says the training will teach deputies to make sure the batteries in the bracelets used to track participants are changed regularly.  Deputies are also trained to conduct searches using the tracking system if a participant is reported missing.  Wood County was the first county in West Virginia to adopt the program but the goal is to have all 55 counties signed up by the end of 2012.  The cost per family is only 10 dollars per month.  Basic training will occur November 9th and 10th at the Byrd Center at WVU Sciences Center in Martinsburg.  Instructor Training will take place November 11th.
