Alana Hartman, the Potomac Basin Coordinator with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection appeared before the Berkeley County Commissioners Thursday to follow up about acquiring matching funds for a water quality project in the area. Hartman came before the commission last month to ask about contributing up to $2,000 in support of tree and shrub buffer planting along the Opequon Creek watershed. All three commissioners suggested it was a worthwhile project but voted against spending the money. Commissioner Tony Petrucci said that although it is a good program and they would like to help, there are other priorities right now in the county. Commissioners did say they will consider helping with some future DEP project when they begin work on the next fiscal year’s budget.
