Hedgesville Hires New Football Coach
The Berkeley County Board of Education approved the hire of Rich Thomaselli as the new head football coach at Hedgesville High School. Thomaselli, 53, was an all-American at West Virginia Wesleyan and played for the Houston Oilers in 1981-82 playing fullback and blocking for Earl Campbell. He served as the offensive coordinator at Brooke High School this past season which featured one of the top quarterbacks in the state in Coty Wallace. Thomaselli takes over for Paul Plott who coached Hedgesville for the previous two seasons and had a 4-16 record. Thomaselli will be asked to turn around a program that has seen numbers decrease so much that Hedgesville could not field a JV team this past season even though the school has 1307 students in grades 9-11 and is the fifth largest high school in the state. With his background on the offensive side of the ball, Tomaselli will also be asked to turn around an offense that has averaged only 7 points per game over the last two seasons.
