Eastern Panhandle In Line with State Economic Development Council

Kathy Mason with the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Economic Development Authority visited Panhandle Live Thursday after returning from the West Virginia Economic Development Council’s 2010 Legislative meeting in Charleston.

West Virginia Secretary of Commerce Kelley Goes gave a presentation during the meeting about the best career opportunities in West Virginia through 2016.

Mason said the findings were consistent with what they predicted here in the Eastern Panhandle, growth in technology and healthcare fields, but Mason she found it interesting that 75% of jobs created in the state would come from existing jobs rather than new jobs.

Despite the state wide forecast Mason indicated that the Eastern Panhandle was positioned well headed into 2010 despite high unemployment.

Additions such as the Tabler Station Road expansion and the new Eastern Panhandle Inland Port have the potential to encourage continued growth and expansion of business and industry in the area.
