Officials Prepare for Fire Season

(METRONEWS) - The severity of this year’s Spring Forest Fire Season all depends on how fast things dry out.

It isn’t the typical start to the Spring Forest Fire Season. If there’s an inch or more snow on the ground you can burn debris from 7am to 4pm. But once the snow is gone.

That’s no longer allowed. Leslie Fitzwater with the Division of Forestry says all the snow will create a moist forest floor that will hamper fires from spreading, but if it dries out, there’s a lot of fuel for the fire.

Fitzwater says your best best is to keep your brush fires small. That way there’s much less of a chance of them getting out of control.
