Berkeley County School Board Readys 2018-19 School Calendar for Approval

Berkeley County School Board President Dr. Bill Queen presents Spring Mills Middle School Art Teacher Kim Herrman with the March 2018 ACE Award during Monday night’s board meeting.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — During Monday night’s Berkeley County Board of Education meeting, board members went over the details of their proposed school calendar for the 2018-2019 school year.

The calendar that must be approved and finalized by the state would have the first day for students be on August 20, 2018 and the last day set on May 24, 2019.

Superintendent Manny Arvon says the process of mapping out the instructional days for students gets fast tracked by committee and hasn’t changed too much over the years.

“It’s usually a pretty quick process  in Berkeley County. Our calendar has been pretty much the same for many, many years,” said Arvon. “It is one that we’re comfortable with.”

Board member will officially approve the proposed calendar at their next board meeting next Tuesday.

The board also honored the district’s ACE Educator for March 2018 at the meeting. A plaque was given to Kim Herrman, a Art Teacher at Spring Mills Middle School, who has been with the County for 25 years.
