Earthquake felt in Jefferson County

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A minor earthquake was reported in Jefferson County around 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Brandon Vallee with Jefferson County Homeland Security and Emergency Management said that as of 5:00p.m Sunday, 75 phone calls had come into emergency dispatch.

He said there were no reports of injury or property damage.

“Just a lot of concerned people,” said Vallee. “a lot of people just wondering what’s going on.”

The last quake to strike the region came in 2011.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey the epicenter of the quake Sunday was about 2 miles southeast of Bolivar.

It registered as 3.0 on the Richter scale, which is classified as minor.
