Participating in job fairs has proven to be a successful way for Prettyman Broadcasting Company to communicate, to the general public, that there are many different career opportunities available in broadcasting.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company also gives tours of the radio stations to local organizations.  On January 11, 2010 Joe Santitez, Program Director for WLTF-FM conducted a tour of the facility for Cubs Scout Pack, Troop 42 of Charles Town-Ranson, WV. Saturday, March 13, 2010 Nick “D” WLTF-FM on air personality hosted a tour of the studios to 15 members of the Hedgesville Cub Scout Troup of Hedgesville, WV at 1pm. Not only do participants get to see the inner workings of radio but also are informed of the many career opportunities radio has to offer.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company has set up an ongoing recruitment effort utilizing all three radio stations, WEPM/WICL/WLTF.  This includes, but is not limited to, running two announcements every day on all three stations informing the public about some of the opportunities for a career in broadcasting.  These announcements include a request of groups or organizations to contact the station if they would like to be notified when the stations have specific job openings.  In addition, the company posts the same scripts on its’ websites.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company is a high profile business in the community. We are very active with many local non-profit organizations. Our involvement includes, but, is not limited to, making guest appearances, acting as Masters of Ceremony, promoting their events in person and on the air. Also, meeting many commercial business leaders to discuss their advertising strategies, we have established successful relationships with many community leaders. General Manager Norman Slemenda is on the Board of Directors for Martinsburg/Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce. He also sits on the Main Street Martinsburg Promotion Committee and is actively involved in the United Way, The American Cancer Society and other fund raising activity in the Eastern Panhandle.  Because of this, we receive many recruitment referrals.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company’s AM station, WEPM, airs an hour long program Monday through Friday, 9am-10am named Panhandle Live. Panhandle Live covers many issues concerning local, state and national concerns. Panhandle Live has hosted many elected officials, from Martinsburg Mayor, Berkeley County Sheriff, County and City Commissioners, WV Governor to presidential hopefuls. It has also hosted many agencies; among them Workforce West Virginia representative Nick Diehl. The program also addresses local school issues. The WV State & Berkeley County Schools Superintendents have been on the show numerous times discussing issues ranging from overcrowded class rooms, teacher’s salaries and the various problems schools are faced with daily. Area high school coaches are normal guests during their seasons to bring awareness to the community on the progress of the student athletes and the individual programs. It also reaches out to the community officials by addressing topics including recycling, zoning, growth impact on schools, highways, water, to name a few. This has also proved to be a great source of recruitment referrals.

WEPM-AM also airs a half hour program Monday-Wednesday and Fridays called Breakfast with Lesley and Jamie. The program is hosted by Lesley and Jamie Lopez local real estate and financial advisors. The program focuses on local upcoming events, entertainers, and local artists. This program not only makes the community aware of the happenings in our area but also they have touched on the different roles and employment opportunities radio has to offer.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company is a primary sponsor of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. We broadcast live from the annual 2 day Relay and serve as Master of Ceremonies. Prettyman Broadcasting is also a primary sponsor of the American Cancer Society Active for Life Program. Many contacts are made with in these two organizations, not only business opportunities but a great way for the staff to be involved in very worthwhile community events.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company also offers internships to college students. In November 2009 two Shepherd University students contacted Norman Slemenda, General Manager, regarding an internship for their final semester. Pietro DiSante started interning with the stations in December 2009 and Joseph Catron started in January 2010. Pietro and Joseph both went out on various remote broadcasts, helped in the office with sales, traffic and other office duties, such as Public Service Announcements. They both worked with the News Director, Hans Fogle, attending County Commission Meetings in both Berkeley and Jefferson Counties, Martinsburg City Council meetings.  In May 2010 Samuel Frye a student at Virginia Tech and Denver Gayden a student at Alderson Braddus joined our intern program. They also are working closely with the office and sales staff, news department, and on air programming.   They not only reported back to Mr. Fogle, but wrote news stories and did live and recorded newscasts.  Internships are a wonderful opportunity for Prettyman Broadcasting and the students. The students learn first hand about the inter workings of broadcasting. Prettyman Broadcasting while working with these students learns what is being taught and expected from our future broadcasters. April 16, 2010 Pietro DiSante was hired as a part-time employee.Appendix 1 to Annual EEO Public File Report Form Covering the Period from June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010 Station(s) Comprising Station Employment Unit:   WEPM/WICL/WLTF                    Section 1: Vacancy Information
