Preliminary Hearing held in Carjacking Death Case

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A preliminary hearing was held Monday in the case of a man who carjacked an elderly woman resulting in her death.

36-year-old Adam Domer appeared in front of Magistrate Judge Harry Snow for short time as the judge read out his charges of grand larceny, two counts of malicious wounding, and robbery.

He was also charged with murder in the case by a different Magistrate Judge. The prosecuting attorney asked the judge if the process would begin to consolidate all the charges against Domer together.

86-year-old Joan Staubs was the victim in the case. She was attacked on September 2nd as she was preparing to head to service at Winchester Avenue Christian Church.

She reportedly suffered severe head injuries after being approached by the suspect and passed away the following Friday.

Roughly 15 members of the church and friends of Staub gathered in the court room in a show of support.

Kathy Gess, a member at the same church, said the service a week after the attack was emotional to say the least.

“Very solemn. Very emotional. But yet, we know that she is with the Lord,” said Gess. “We just have to accept it and know that she is in a better place.”

Domer waived his right to a hearing Monday as he also filed paperwork in the courtroom to obtain an attorney. He will remain in custody at the Eastern Regional Jail on $115,000 bond.
